Sirus Radio Is Filled With Great Entertainment

Sirus radio (which began in 2002) is a satellite provider which operates in both the U.S. and Canada.  Although it is based in New York City it also has studios located in both Los Angeles and Memphis.

Via three satellites which are in orbit over North America those who buy subscriptions can listen to Sirus radio talk channels such as Howard 100 and 101.  These channels do carry commercials.

To receive a subscription you have to prepay anywhere from $12.95 monthly plus $6.99 for each extra receiver that you have installed.  There is also a lifetime subscription available for around $500.

Some of the talk shows which are broadcast on Sirus radio were first made for terrestrial radio, now they are airing at the same time on both terrestrial and Sirus radio.

One of the major things that Sirus set out to accomplish was sto make exclusive deals with entertainers to provide broadcast streams form their foundation upward.  They have made deals with Martha Stewart, Steven Van Zandt, and Jimmy Buffet just to name a few.  Steven Van Zandt has since created two stations especially for Sirus radio.  They are alternative country channels called Outlaw Country and Underground Garage having to do with hard rock.

Some of the receivers like Starmate Replay and Sportster 4 are created for secondary market installation.  In order to work every receiver has to be connected to an outside antenna that comes along with it.  Of course, you should be mounting the antenna where you are going to receive the strongest signal possible.

The Stiletto 100 radio (Model SL 100) is completely portable.  It can store Sirus radio programming and you have the option of downloading your favorite online tracks.  Some of the features include the fact that as many as 100 hours of live Sirus radio can be stored on it plus it will automatically record your most favored Sirus music.  The kit which includes the radio and ear plugs also contains My Sirus Studio software with Yahoo Music Engine.

Sirus radio has announced that it will merge with XM radio.  They are waiting to merge resulting in one great United States satellite radio network.  The merger was approved by the Justice Department in March 2008.  The FCC has been asked to resolve some issues between Sirus radio and XM radio.  The merger is still awaiting approval of the FCC.
